The comments about the videos are pasted in below, these aren’t extensive feedback notes but we do like to provide students with some comments from the panel.

Comments:  [personalised student feedback would appear here in a private email]

Current Covid-19 situation permitting; we anticipate beginning the program in October of 2020 as was previously announced.

This year has given us an opportunity to explore an improvement to the program which we were planning to hold back until 2021 but based on the age distribution of the current applicants we are considering bringing it in this year.

Instead of having the two current age categories “8yrs-11yrs” and “11yrs+”, we would like to have three age groups which will be “8yrs-10yrs”, “11yrs-13yrs” and “14yrs+”, (and because one person cannot be in two places at once, we will also have an opportunity to add an extra session to each day for the 11-13yrs and 14yrs+ age groups, explained a bit later on).

The reason we are keen to implement this is it will result in a narrowing of the age/ability range in each group and allow tutors to focus their teachings to an appropriate level. This change may also result in a smaller class size so we need to ensure this is viable before committing to this idea. (and just for clarity these changes will not affect the price of the program.)

If we are able to go ahead with this change the timings will look like this:

Lower ages (8-10yrs):

  • 1:30pm-3:00pm Session 1
  • 3:00pm-3:15pm Break
  • 3:15pm-4:45pm Session 2

Middle ages (11-13yrs):

  • 10:00am-11:30am Session 1
  • 11:30am-11:45am Break
  • 11:45am-1:15pm Session 2
  • 1:15pm-1:30pm Break
  • 1:30pm-3:00pm Open Session (optional mixed class Middle and Upper)

Upper ages (14yrs+):

  • 10:00am-11:30am Session 1
  • 11:30am-11:45am Break
  • 11:45am-1:15pm Session 2
  • 1:15pm-1:30pm Break
  • 1:30pm-3:00pm Open Session (optional mixed class Middle and Upper)

What’s an Open Session?

Open Sessions will be hosted by a tutor and will be suitable for the Middle and Upper age groups only. Students may be taught by a variety of tutors throughout the year, as such the content of the Open Session will change, and we plan to advertise these ahead of time so students may decide if they want to take part. Depending on the uptake of the program overall, there may be a small charge for these extra optional sessions.

We want to acknowledge that if this change goes ahead it will affect those in the Lower ages, so we would like your feedback if you are in the lower age group. We have considered a three-group set up for a while; initially thinking of using the Saturday-before (starting 1:30pm after the normal dance lessons at the venue end), or another Sunday in the month, but it was decided by the team that keeping the offering on the same day would be the most manageable change especially consigning those who have two students in the program.

We wanted to let parents know that we have thought the options through thoroughly and hope this decision would be for the best considering Dancers also frequently attend other events at weekends such as festivals, other associate programs and dance school performances.

With those hopeful changes explained, we would like to invite you to join us when the program commences in October later this year.

Please respond by email to confirm your acceptance of this place. If you are not able to accept your place this year please inform us as soon as possible.

Thank you again for taking the time to apply and for your interest in the Derbyshire Dance Associates.

Thank you for your recent email accepting your place on the 2020-2021 Derbyshire Dance Associates Program, we would like to congratulate you again and say we are pleased to have you joining the program this year.

We wanted to take this opportunity to share some more information and FAQs with you.

  • On the covid-19 situation: It is our hope that by October 2020 dance schools will have resumed some sort of normality. In the event that circumstances beyond our control force the closure of dance schools, or impose unmanageable social distancing rules, we will have to postpone the delivery of lessons in person and will move to an online offering. However, should this be the case all students will be offered a full refund of any fees paid towards the cost of the course and will be invited to the online program which will have a different schedule and cost.
  • The planned dates are:
    • 11th October 2020
    • 8th November 2020
    • 13th December 2020

  • Members Facebook group: The easiest method of non-private communication is our Member’s only Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1832052336830183/) Parents and students are welcome to join this group and will be approved by an admin. Email is always a suitable form of communication, but for anything not-private, members are welcome to use the Facebook group if they prefer.
    • (please note that there is a public DDA page which is used primarily for advertising: https://www.facebook.com/DerbyshireDA/ – it’s worth taking a note of the difference so that your messages don’t go to the wrong place.)
  • Uniform for Students: There is a branded uniform for the program, please see uniform list below. We will be asking students to order this uniform closer to the time as we are currently checking availability with our supplier.
  • Attendance: we would like to see all students attend as many sessions as possible, we understand there may be occasions where a prior commitment has been made to your home dance school for events such as shows, festivals or exams. We encourage all students to keep to their commitments at their home school over attending an associate session with us.
  • Payment: The total cost of the program is £225 per student usually paid over 3 instalments. This year we are also introducing a payment plan for any families who may need to spread the cost. Both payment schedules are detailed below.

Thank you again for choosing our program!

Good afternoon!
Now that we have officially welcomed in the new Academic Year, it’s time to start gearing up for our 3rd Year of Associates!
Apologies for the radio silence over last few weeks, as some of you may have seen from our emails and social media we have been renovating the studios which was an all-consuming (but very worth while!) task.
Following on from that myself and Joanne who organise DDA have also been busy ensuring a safe return to dance for our home-students at JLDance Academy, and now that renovations are complete and the ‘new normal’ is in place for the students who use these studios as their full-time dance school, we can now turn our attention to dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s for DDA 2020/21!
If you applied online during one of the two main audition dates, you should have received two confirmation and information emails, one inviting you to the program, and a second email thanking you for accepting a place and providing some more details about the program. (if you applied slightly later, and haven’t received those formal invitations, please let me know!)
We wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone to join the Members Facebook group here:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/DerbyshireDAMembers – myself and Jo did a live video on the 12th of August as a mini-welcome and to put some faces to names, if you’ve not had a chance to watch that video please put the kettle on and have a listen.
As mentioned, info has been sent out, but incase you missed it or need a reminder, we’ll paste in some key points from each below:
